A BARE, INC. short film recaps the year with dull numbers, oddball trivia…and, inexplicably, a fish.
This BARE, INC. short film reframes the past year through an aquarium. Inside, two artifacts (the mug from “The Event” and the CD from “Music for Ads 001”) stand as monuments to a goldfish. As the camera examines them, uninspired annual metrics appear. Soon the statistics falter, replaced by stray facts about the fish itself. What begins as a corporate recap slips into absurd self-mythology, where BARE, INC.’s emblematic objects and the fish share equal billing, parodying how value is measured and remembered.
I directed and edited this short to juxtapose corporate formality with absurd detail, subverting the familiar tone of company year-in-review videos. Camera scale was central: submerging into the tank, scanning the artifacts, then closing in until the goldfish seems to suffocate under the weight of numbers and scrutiny.
The edit heightens this shift from report to parody, balancing humor with unease. I also composed & produced an original score that leaned into intimidation, but ultimately omitted it for being too directive, letting pacing and imagery carry the tone (see reference track below).
