5 songs, 6 archived BARE, INC. ads: you chase the “correct” sync that never arrives; your amusement becomes the product, and your attention the price.

This project recontextualizes Music for Ads 001 across six monitors running different BARE, INC. advertisements. Visitors approach a stand where a prosthetic hand offers headphones (optional covers provided) and listen as the piece cycles through the five tracks from Music for Ads 001. With one more screen than songs, synchronization is impossible by design. The piece reframes commercial language through a cinematic glitch: as tracks and visuals drift, audiences assemble their own cross-rhythms and narratives, discovering moments of accidental harmony and friction. The work shifts authorship from maker to viewer, foregrounding how branding colonizes attention yet still leaves space for subjective montage, desire, and play. Premiered at Terrain 15 (Spokane, Washington).

My role was Lead Director of the project, along with having directed many of the integrated videos. I also composed Music for Ads 001. Joseph Stafford designed the 3D model of the hand & bowl, which we 3D printed and attached to a stand that I fabricated. The stand was designed to appear to be connected to the screen frame via colorful cables, though these were not hardwired in any way and instead implied function. Additionally, I fabricated & painted the entire screen frame and created the tech infrastructure to allow these screens to stream the 6 videos without any power issues.
